It’s funny how things change. Go back five years, it seems like a lifetime away, go back ten, and it’s already an ocean away. What’s stranger still is how we try so hard to hold on to something, to crystallize a feeling, a point in time, a way of living. If you don’t look close, but sort of in between, you’ll find that are patterns here and there are some things that endure, at least for a lifetime or so. A mother’s love, the exact point an orgasm brims over the edge, the scent of rain, the taste of popsicles in the summer, there are moments that triumph over their surrounding times and remain, like snow flakes melting on the ground. Their essence seems to linger somehow.

Then again, perhaps they don’t. Perhaps words are just words, and a snowflake melting is just a simple thermodynamic reaction we’ve been conditioned to give too much attention to.
